Thursday July 10, 1997 - Surroundings of Kota Kinabalu
Today the weather is very cloudy and very uncertain
Alex and Chris say it's not good to go back
on the islands, even dangerous...
I learn in passing that "pirates" regularly act
around these islands and take hostages, demand ransoms etc...
Not very reassuring!
The day is therefore dedicated to strolling around Kota Kinabalu
and in the city itself
First the government monument which looks like a kind of rocket.
I remember being told that a Frenchman had fun climbing along this
building with bare hands
Which did not fail to surprise the locals....
Immediately after, we visit a huge Shinto temple
a “chinese temple” as they say
How I'm starting to get used to it and how Asians love it
and especially the Chinese population of Malaysia, we have lunch and spend
in the afternoon in a luxury hotel-golf-complex nearby
I can't help but think that I'm quite far from traveling
“backpacker type” that I was used to!!
Afterwards, during the return journey, a small accident: a cat crosses
the road preventing us from avoiding it...
a little fear
Tracy, Alex's sister met in Singapore, arrives today.
We will pick her up at the airport
In the evening, shopping at Center Point where I bought 2 video CDs of films not yet
published in France: Lost World and another that I have since forgotten...
At the time (1997) DVD was not widespread but in Asia, we
was already very familiar with digital media to watch films in
video.
I told myself at the time that it was perhaps due, among other things, to the hot humid climate.
not at all suitable for traditional video cassettes
