Tuesday July 8, 1997 - Departure to Borneo
Today we leave for the northern part of Borneo.
The island part to the east of the Malaysian peninsula.
We get up at 6 a.m., taxi to Singapore airport.
1 hour 50 minutes of flight to arrive in KOTA KINABALU which is the nearest city
largest island of Malaysia
Going through customs is a bit strange.
There is the line of Malaysians and the line of Westerners.
Westerners pass without any or almost no control then
that all Malaysians are obliged, without exception, to undo
all their luggage which is all scrupulously inspected!
But everything goes without incident!
In Kota Kinabalu, there lives another sister of Alex: Vanessa!
She came to pick us up at the airport
We spend the rest of the day walking around the city.

In the evening, a dinner is planned with Alex's family in a restaurant
of the open-air port specializing in “sea food”,
fish, shellfish galore
The meal is gargantuan
